stage whisper

Dave is playing a game of hide-and-go-seek with Amy. He is making himself heard so that she can hear him.

Dave: One,two, three...

Child: (hiding in the cupboard, whispers) He won't look here.

Dave: Coming, ready or not!

Dave pretends to look for the child in various places. All the while contemplating the choices facing him.

Dave: I bet you're here... no, no, that's too obvious, you hid there last time. Perhaps behind here... no wrong again. Where are you?

Child: (giggles)

Dave: What is that I hear - why, it sounds like a dove cooing! Has a bird flown inside?

The child is silent now and listens to Dave's footsteps approaching. She holds her breath.

Dave: Well, the sound was coming from around here. I see the window has been left open. Maybe the bird has flown away. Now, where's Amy? I better get back to my search.

Dave leaves the room, and Amy is all alone. Time passes. Amy begins to get bored. The cupboard feels tight and small. She decides to find another hiding place.

Dave: (opens the cupboard) Boo!

Dave is dissapointed to discover that Amy has left her hiding place. Now the search will take longer as he goes back over all the places he has already routinely checked. His eyes scan the large room, and his mind wanders. No sign of Amy anywhere.
